Hey! What're you saving it for?!
You keep on stalling on the stoop of every door!
I think that you should say, "I want more and more and more."
Some people say, "A stitch in time saves nine lives without having to live one."
But you know what I don't think that sounds like much fun!
So take your time, you dogged freak!
Day after day & year after year,
The doom in the mirror gets as close as it appears.
But spit the bit and hit the ground running without it,
One mile at a time in between every red light.
Take your time, you dogged freak!

Dizzy From The Heat

There ain't no EZ deals
When you get right down to it that's just how I feel.
Squeaky wheels, backroom deals, power trips, I'm over it
Burned bread and melted ice, you wanna catch flies you gotta treat them nice:
You wanna catch flies you gotta catch them with honey
So how many rats can you race with house money?
Hey what's in the soap? I don't feel very clean.
And what's this that the old people are doing--
What's this now that they're about to ruin?
Pandora's box in a Trojan horse,
A trick of the eye in a bad disguise.
I'm riding shotgun on a poisoned gut,
They say it's on me but it's never enough.
Well I'm not a precious thing, I'm as rigid and steady as tumbling dice
You wanna read 'em and weep? It's not that deep:
I'm going dizzy from the heat
Just want to go when the whistle blows and get the hell out of dodge if the river glows
Bury my hands by the heads in the sand, life's a beach man,
Life's a beach man!
"Take me down to the dirty town,
Where the grass is greed and the girls are sweaty,
Oh won't you please take me home?"

The Chicken Or The Egg

Hush little daddy maybe don't say a word
You know your little baby's coming via sacred bird
It might be an earthquake inside of a snowflake
An avalanche that makes you shake shake shake.
The chicken or the egg?
I can't tell your kids who their father is.
Bombs down the hallway going boom boom boom
Saying, "Who's got the biggest penis in this room?"
And, "What color would you say the color of skin is?"
And, "What kind of penance is for all of your sins?"
The chicken or the egg?
I can't tell your kids who their father is.
My son thinks it's funny that they mis-spelled dud
On the tattoo I got that says "World's Greatest Dad"
He says, "Oh man that's sad! But you aren't that bad!
And anyways don't you know the dragon scrolls are blank!"
The chicken or the egg?
I can't tell your kids who their father is.

Way down deep in the darkest depths of Mordor
That's where Gollum got his gal,
He said "Do you like Led Zeppelin?"
She said "I don't know how."
I awoke from a fever dream
My sheets were soaked by the reckoning of being.
Well, nobody's perfect except for the pretenders
Who stay the same while the whole world is changing.
Am I just that invisible creep?
A passive cat who wears a pat on the head?
"Plastic Dachshund" and "Fuji Jazz"
I just want something that I've never had.
Well here I am I'm 42 years old
And I'm still looking for that guitar with my name
Inlaid down the fretboard in pearl--that's my world
I guess you could say my life was saved by rock 'n roll.

Mammoth Spaces
02:42
|

It could have been the feeling of feeling alone
That lead to the drinking that lead to the drugs
But anyway I haven't walked a straight line in a prehistoric time
Time has a way of handling regrets
It'll ratchet like a wrench and fix you to never forget
The great equalizing majesty of heartbreak
These mammoth spaces holding us apart
Like shapeless puzzle pieces in between us
Now everybody's looking for their "New Sensations"
I just want to go home and see my dog
She's a scavenger, she only scavenges
She doesn't communicate at all
"Oh My My, Oh Hey Hey"
Was I born just to grow insane
With an uneven ravine in between every feeling?

Mountain Factory

I was working downtown in the mountain factory
Just the molehill measurements, the stoned residents and me.
Had a vision of a collision of faults
Put a strange range through each and every single one of my thoughts.
All I've ever been after was an honest fill--
But from a crest of dirt the only way you can turn is downhill.
As frozen as time in the dragon museum
Where the history's fake, but the bones are real.
I said, "I don't even see a flesh wound!"
And I don't know how to look at things I can't see
Is it medical, is it natural, is it even actual?
I need Athena's divine Aegis of the hospital vernacular.
Oh these butterflies can feel the size of eagles
Or vultures even on their finite loop
You can almost hear them scream as they swoop
"You only get what you praypreypay for".
I've never been nervous like this before

There's a full moon in my backyard,
The kind of light even a drunkard could reflect on.
But I'm no Running Rabbit I've never moved on instinct:
I turn every leaf over before I cash it in,
Over and over and over and over again.
I'm gonna do whatever I want to do!
I'm gonna do whatever it is that I feel is true.
There's a slim moon over Crispy Pizza,
And chicken wing fingers hold the one I'm missing.
But negative spaces can fill at the speed of darkness,
And in a single square inch of silence
You could learn to love the human voice.
With secrets whispered in the language of night,
The kind that only time will tell.
There's a new moon somewhere out over the highway,
The business end of heaven hits you right between the eyes.
Caught between two pair of lights, one red one white--
Driving at night I didn't get to where it was I wanted to go
I was just another man on the road.
I took a chance on an exit ramp,
Found the prolific poetess I was looking for.
I said, "I'm gonna do whatever I want to do!--
I'm gonna do whatever it is that you tell me to!"
It's not that I have some grand profundity to say,
I just want to talk to you Jess.

Bird Laws

One day when I was out walking with my son,
He said to me, "Father what is there that is to be done?"
We had seen a stray kitten out in a den of dog lovers,
The alpha rough types and the mean wolf mothers.
Well I am no historian but I have made time for perspective,
And I have never cut the tongue from any witness.
When you sing out like a liar,
Every chorus can sound like a honey drenched choir.
It reminds me of something my sweet sister used to tell me,
She said "You can find better facts in fiction if you want something to believe in.
And beware of the witch in the water--
She's got nothing left to lose but your faith in human dignity."
Baby, don't believe in cages, you're gonna love the thrill,
Of everything changing while you get your fill.
Baby, don't believe in cages, you're gonna love the thread,
Nothing changes like complications anyway.
